SHERWOOD ANNOUNCES TWO NEW SMALL BUSINESS GRANT PROGRAMS

As a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Sherwood has recently received two new grants which the City will use to provide financial assistance to Sherwood’s small businesses that can help assist them through this period.  The City has been awarded a $35,000 grant from Business Oregon, the State’s economic development agency, and $248,000 in funds from the federal CARES Act distributed to the City through Washington County for this purpose.   Applications under both programs will be accepted starting at 9:00 am on Monday, August 24, 2020 and will close at 5:00 pm on Friday, August 28, 2020.  The City had previously held an initial round of business grants back in April 2020 that assisted 93 local businesses and nearly $200,000 in emergency grants earlier in the pandemic.

In response to these new programs, Mayor Keith Mays stated “The City of Sherwood values our small businesses and recognizes that our local businesses continue to be significantly impacted by the COVID-19 emergency.   We are focused on getting these new federal and state funds out quickly to our businesses to help them in these challenging times.”

Businesses must be located within the city of Sherwood and meet the other eligibility requirements of the two grant programs.  Sherwood businesses may apply for both programs if eligibility criteria are met and the business demonstrates in the application that the new funds are used for different expenditures.  Businesses that have previously received a City of Sherwood Small Business Emergency Relief Grant in April 2020 may also apply for these new grant funds provided the business can demonstrate in the application that the grant will be utilized for different expenditures
