Sherwood City Manager Departs City For Clean Water Services Opportunity

After nearly nine years as the City Manager for the City of Sherwood, Joe Gall has accepted a new position with regional water resource management utility Clean Water Services (CWS) in Hillsboro, Oregon.  Gall will be their first-ever Chief Utility Relations Officer and will lead the newly formed Regional Utility Services Department.

“While I am excited about joining Clean Water Services, I will certainly miss the wonderful people here at the City of Sherwood,” stated Gall. “Whether it is our outstanding City Council members, the solid team of City staff, or the numerous volunteers within our organization, the people have been the best part about working for the City of Sherwood.”  As the city comes out of the Covid-19 pandemic, Gall believes that the city and community are poised for continued success in the near future. “This past year has been challenging in so many ways, but Sherwood is a strong, resilient community and there are many positive signs that we are seeing on the horizon.  Whether it is the new industrial growth in the Tonquin Employment Area, creation of a new Urban Renewal Area to help build important infrastructure projects, or the gradual re-opening of our local businesses, I certainly remain bullish about Sherwood’s future.”

Gall will remain in his City Manager position through May to help complete the budget process for next fiscal year and to ensure a smooth transition for his replacement.  City Council will be working in the next few weeks to plan for the transition including naming an interim City Manager and beginning the recruitment process for Gall’s successor.  This process can normally take 3 to 5 months to complete.

When asked about this announcement, Mayor Keith Mays responded “Talented and successful leaders in local government eventually attract the attention of larger organizations and they get lured away.  Joe has a 9-year track record of success here, with deep connections in our community that will continue long after his departure.  Through the years he has successfully executed on the vision of City leadership and helped bring many goals, priorities, and projects to life. The community of Sherwood is a better, stronger place for all our residents to live, work and play because of his efforts.  There is never a perfect time for a change, but the city is in a good position with excellent city staff, city councilors and volunteers as we begin the process to find the rising star who will be our next city manager. We are grateful for Joe’s passion, commitment and drive through the years and wish him the best in his new ventures”.
