The Bridge Is Now Open For Use!
Grand Opening Event September 27
Join us to celebrate the grand opening of the bridge! Saturday, September 27 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Check back for details.
There will be minor ongoing construction until the grand opening celebration takes place.
Overview
We’ve built a better, safer way for people biking and walking to cross OR 99W: a footbridge over the highway near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard.
Why is this needed?
- North of the highway is the new high school and the Sherwood West expansion, which adds housing and commerce.
- South of the highway is new housing near Brookman Road, the YMCA and a new skatepark.
It all adds up to more kids and adults crossing 99W to reach all those destinations.
We have several new trails ending near the intersection of 99W and SW Sunset Boulevard. Now we’ll connect them with a safe, convenient span over the highway.
Timeline
Construction began in February 2024 and the bridge opened up to bikes and pedestrians on August 26. Final landscaping and punch list repairs will be completed prior to the grand opening event.
What’s Happening in September
- Completing railing installation and replacing temporary sections with final materials
- Programming the color-changing lighting on the bridge (you may see a preview of future holiday scenes!)
- Completing the entry plaza and steps at 99W and Sunset
- Installing landscape edgings and mow curbs
- Planting and seeding throughout the project area
- Punch list process and final corrective work
