Status Updates
Under Construction

The Bridge Will Be Open for Use on August 26th!

There will be minor ongoing construction until the grand opening celebration takes place in late September. Check back for updates.

Overview

We’re building a better, safer way for people biking and walking to cross OR 99W: a footbridge over the highway near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard.

Why is this needed?

  • North of the highway is the new high school and the Sherwood West expansion, which adds housing and commerce.
  • South of the highway is new housing near Brookman Road, the YMCA and a new skatepark.

It all adds up to more kids and adults crossing 99W to reach all those destinations.

We have several new trails ending near the intersection of 99W and SW Sunset Boulevard. Now we’ll connect them with a safe, convenient span over the highway.

Timeline

Construction began in February 2024 and the bridge will be open to bikes and pedestrians beginning on August 26.  Final landscaping and punch list repairs will be completed prior to the grand opening event, which is tentatively scheduled for late September, 2025.

What’s Happening Through August

  • Preparing and pouring sidewalks on the approach ramps.
  • Wiring and programming the color-changing lighting on the bridge (you may see a preview on certain nights!)
  • Architectural bridge lighting and pedestrian path lighting will begin.
  • Installing pedestrian path light fixtures on the bridge and the approaches.
  • Installing bridge railing, approach ramp railing, and throw barriers.
  • Doing final grading, irrigation, and planting throughout the project area.
  • Removing the construction fences and restoring the site at the YMCA and Elks Lodge staging areas.

Ribbon Cutting Event Coming in September

Join us to celebrate the grand opening of the bridge!  This community event’s date is not yet confirmed, but may take place on September 27, 2025. Check back for details.
