Our Spaces & Languages

Sherwood Public Library

We have been working on improving the accessibility and welcoming atmosphere of the physical facility, our website, and the languages provided.

  • We have just had our first accessibility walk-through with a trauma-informed lens and are looking forward to making progress on the suggestions in the report.
  • We installed a new self-checkout machine in our children's area in 2021. This unit has more space around it, making it easier to use for families and patrons using mobility tools.
  • We expanded the children's world languages section in 2021 to allow more space for this growing collection.
  • Interior wayfinding signage is important to us. The Children’s area uses pictograms in the non-fiction and picture books by topics signage. We added subject wayfinding signs in adult non-fiction. Signage is color-coded by age-group and our directional signs are in English and Spanish. Welcome signs are in multiple languages on the front doors.
  • For Spanish-speakers and readers, we added a Spanish-language webpage portal at sherwoodoregon.gov/library/es. All new and revised policies are being translated into Spanish. We provide a welcoming brochure in English and Spanish. Our Book Match @ Sherwood Public Library service was launched in English and Spanish in 2017 as Sugerenicas de libros @ Sherwood Public Library.
  • A computer station with adaptive technology was added in early 2018. The large-type keyboard, larger default screen resolution, and track ball mouse all help accommodate low vision and fine motor skills. We also have these tools available for checkout through our Library of Things, launched the same year.
