Our Programs & Events

Sherwood Public Library

Here are some recent examples of how we work to celebrate our diverse community and provide equitable access to life-long learning through our library events and programs.

  • We are proud to partner with the Sherwood School District SHARE Center to provide basic digital literacy workshops in English and in Spanish, with incentives such as meals, childcare, gas and grocery cards, and more, to reduce barriers to participation. This series in Fall 2023 is funded by the Public Library Association and AT&T.
  • Our regular programs such as Read to the Dogs, TeenLAB, and All Ages Storytimes are especially welcoming to people of all abilities and educational paths. We regularly customize other events and programs to accommodate and honor diverse needs. Please let us know how we can do better.
  • In September, 2022, we celebrated Welcoming Week by enhancing our citizenship and naturalization resources and providing multilingual events and activities--thanks to a grant from the Cultural Coalition of Washington County, with support from the Oregon Cultural Trust.
  • In 2021, we won a national grant, Libraries Transforming Communities, through the American Library Association, to hold a Community Reads on understanding race in October, 2021, with book discussions for adults and youth.
  • We regularly lead adult book discussions that dive deeper into conversations about race, class, and heritage.
  • We present Bilingual Storytime in the Park as a series in the summer in English and Spanish, annually since 2016.
  • We began hosting Citizenship Classes in 2019.
  • We routinely present multicultural events, including our annual Chinese Lion Dance, and other music and dance events to celebrate global cultures.
  • We added Tech Help Appointments in Spanish.
  • We added test proctoring services in 2019 to better serve non-traditional learners.
