Senior Advisory Board

Overview

The Senior Advisory Board is appointed by the City Council and consists of up to nine members who serve a three year term. Eight of the members must live within Sherwood city limits and one member must live within the 97140 zip code. The Board serves as an advisory board to the City Council and city administration on senior services programming, policies, planning, and management.

The Board shall:

  • Evaluate community needs and resources on a regular basis and incorporate relevant findings into a statement of purpose guiding the provision of senior services in the area;
  • Assist the City Council and city administration in developing long-range plans, goals, priorities, and objectives for the delivery of senior services, including types, levels, and quality of services, through the Marjorie Stewart Senior Community Center and other local senior services;
  • Assist the City Council and city administration in creating public policy on senior safety, housing, transportation, health, and other needs relevant to the senior community;
  • Promote public participation and awareness of programs to increase the use of the senior services in and around Sherwood, including at the Marjorie Stewart Senior Community Center;
  • Establish and maintain coordinated and cooperative working relationships between residents, the business community, faith community, youth population, schools, other agencies, the city government including the Marjorie Stewart Senior Community Center and other local senior services;
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as may be designated by City Council or requested by city staff.

The Senior Advisory Board generally meets at 5pm the second Wednesday of each month at the Marjorie Stewart Senior Community Center, located at 21907 SW Sherwood Blvd.

Citizen comments may be provided in person, in writing, or by telephone. Written comments must be submitted at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled meeting start time by email to Marjorie Stewart Community Center Manager Maiya Martin Burbank at burbankm@sherwoodoregon.gov, and must clearly state that it is intended as a general Citizen Comment for this meeting. To provide comment by phone during the live meeting, please email Maiya Martin Burbank, or call (503) 625-5644 at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting start time in order to receive dial-in instructions. Per Council Rules Ch. 2 Section (V)(D)(5), Citizen Comments, “Speakers shall identify themselves by their name and by their city of residence.” Anonymous comments will not be accepted into the meeting record.
