Cedar Creek Floodplain Remapping
The City of Sherwood is working with Kittelson and Associates to study the FEMA floodplain and base flood elevations for Cedar Creek (between SW Rein Rd & Chicken Creek). The purpose of this project is to correct the initial model that was oversimplified without taking account of the hydrology of the channel. The current Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) was created based on the initial model which shows a higher flow rate and higher base flood elevation (BFE).
This project includes modeling the initial effective model that was used in the Flood Insurance Study, and then the corrected effective model that accurately incorporates natural physical hydraulic changes and more detailed topographic information since the development of the effective model. The study resulted in a change to the floodplain areas and Letters of Map Revision (LOMR) will be submitted to FEMA. In general, the proposed flood hazard areas reduced, but there are areas where they increased based on topography.
Property owners that will be affected by the proposed LOMR will be notified. The attached map shows the approximate limits of the study limits.
