Books & Bricks Youth Winter Reading 2023-2024
Calendar Date:
Saturday, December 16, 2023 (All day) to Wednesday, January 3, 2024 (All day)Kids keep up their reading habits during winter break with our LEGO-themed reading challenge. Turn the log in at the end of break for a chance to win fun LEGO prizes and an extra school library checkout for those at an SSD elementary school.
How it works for Sherwood School District elementary students (all other kids, see below):
1. SSD Elementary School Students get their reading log from their teacher. Kids who have lost their log can get a replacement at Sherwood Public Library until they are due (Dec 16-Jan 3).
2. Read 20 minutes a day for 12 days during winter break (Dec 16-Jan 3) for a chance to win prizes.
3. Keep track of your reading with your reading log during winter break. Color in a LEGO brick on the log each day that you read for 20 minutes or more.
4. Get your reading log stamped at Sherwood Public Library. This optional step enters you in an additional prize drawing!
5. Return your completed log to your Sherwood elementary school library by Tues, Jan 9th.
Prizes:
- Everyone who completes the challenge and submits this log to their SSD elementary school gets an extra school library checkout.
- Turning the log in to your school library also enters you in a drawing to win a LEGO kit.
- Getting your log stamped at the Sherwood Public Library enters you to win a LEGO book with mini LEGO kit.
- The school with the most participants will get a LEGO book for their school library.
- Winners will be announced January 16th.
How it works for everyone else (e.g., homeschool, private school, other school district, middle or high school students):
1. Pick up a reading log at Sherwood Public Library between Dec 16-Jan 3.
2. Keep track of your reading with your reading log from Dec 16-Jan 3. Color in a LEGO brick on the log each day that you read for 20 minutes or more.
3. Bring your reading log back to Sherwood Public Library by Tues, Jan 9 to get it stamped and turned in. This enters you in a prize drawing!
Prizes:
- Get your log stamped and turned in to Sherwood Public Library by Tues, Jan 9th to enter a prize drawing for a LEGO book with a mini LEGO kit attached.
- Winners will be announced Jan 16th.
