Street Maintenance

Overview

The City of Sherwood Public Works Department regularly reviews and schedules various repairs on all of the city’s streets. Below are descriptions of regular maintenance processes. Click on the link below to view a map and see which streets are scheduled for repairs this year.

2026 Crack Sealing and Slurry Sealing

Beginning in June city crews will begin our annual Street Crack Seal Program. This program involves removing debris from cracks within the pavement surface and then placing an adhesive sealant in the cracks on the pavement surface, which prevents moisture and non-compressive materials from infiltrating the pavement.

Drivers and pedestrians should be aware of the operations and observe the temporary barricades. Crew members on-site will provide guidance when navigating a street or intersection and roads will usually be navigable. Avoid driving over or walking upon fresh product as the sealant is messy and sticky.

Slurry Sealing will be scheduled later this summer based upon availability of our contractor. There are two concentrated areas in this summer’s scope, one involving Century Dr. between Sherwood Blvd. and Langer Farms Parkway and including all roads immediately to the south, and the other area of streets between Lincoln St and Murdock Rd just south of Willamette St. More details will be available to homeowners who will be directly affected by the Slurry Sealing operations including days and times of road closures, instructions to keep the roadway clear, and alternate driving routes.

Below are maps that provide information as to which streets will be receiving either Crack Sealing or Slurry Sealing. Please review and prepare accordingly.

Crack sealing is one of the most effective road pavement preservation tools available and a very important tool for a pavement management program. Sealing cracks in asphalt pavement is a commonly used maintenance procedure which reduces pavement deterioration by eliminating surface water penetration into underlying base and sub-base layers. Cracks left untreated will lead to more cracks, alligator cracking, potholes and sub-base failure. With proper and timely application, crack sealing can extend pavement life past the point where the cost benefit of added pavement life exceeds the cost of conducting the operation.

Slurry sealing is one of the most versatile and cost effective ways to preserve and protect our paving investment over time. The application of slurry seal will significantly extend the life of existing pavements by protecting the under surface from the effects of aging and the environment over time. Slurry seal will also extend the life of the street, restore weathered wearing surface as well as protects and retards continued weather and traffic erosion.

Pavement preservation is the sum of all activities undertaken to provide and maintain serviceable roadways, including preserving the investment of the City street system, extending pavement life, enhancing pavement performance, ensuring cost effectiveness, and reducing user delays. Pavement work undertaken will extend the service life of an existing pavement. This would include the restoration, placing an overlay, and/or other work required to return an existing roadway to a condition of structural and functional
adequacy.
