What is considered a business?
February 20, 2025Any business or individual who advertises or otherwise represents themselves to the public as engaged in business or is located within the City of Sherwood must obtain a City Business License. Get started by submitting a business license application accompanied by payment of the business license fee.
The City of Sherwood has four primary classifications of businesses:
- Business – In City Limits – consists of any non-residential location that is located within the City of Sherwood’s jurisdiction.
- Home Occupation Business – includes any business owner residing in the City of Sherwood, who is not opening a commercial location. Includes Mobile Vendors residing in the City of Sherwood. A business license and home occupation permit are required.
- Business – Outside City Limits – any person (s), company, or organization headquartered outside of Sherwood’s city limits, that travel into the City of Sherwood to conduct business or provide service. Includes Mobile Vendors residing outside the City of Sherwood.
- Non-Profit – Nonprofits do need a business license unless you are currently licensed under Oregon’s Charitable Trust and Corporation Act (ORS 128.610 et seq.) conducting a business in the city as a means to raise funds for said organization’s charitable purposes. Business will need to be able to provide a 501(c)3 form.
Please Note:
The Sherwood Business License is in addition to any State or County Licenses (i.e. CCB, C.P.A., Medical, Law, Real Estate). It is the responsibility of the licensee to comply with all other applicable legal requirements, including but not limited to Building, Zoning and Fire Safety regulations.
