Business Licenses
License Requirements
Any business or individual who advertises or otherwise represents themselves to the public as engaged in business or is located within the City of Sherwood (including home-based businesses and door-to-door solicitors) must obtain a City Business License, unless exempt under Municipal Code Chapter 5.04. Business license applications shall be accompanied by payment of the business license fee.
Business licenses expire on December 31st each year.
Additional Requirements
The Sherwood Business License is in addition to any State or County Licenses (i.e. CCB, C.P.A., Medical, Law, Real Estate). It is the responsibility of the licensee to comply with all other applicable legal requirements, including but not limited to Building, Zoning and Fire Safety regulations.
Each branch or location of a business is regarded as a separate establishment and requires its own business license.
Renew License
Business licenses expire on December 31st each year. License renewal shall be made prior to a license’s expiration and are considered late if received after February 15.
Business license renewals are emailed to the main contact on the application (October/November). If you are having trouble finding the courtesy renewal email, search for “business license” and check your spam folder.
Metro License
The City of Sherwood does accept the Metro license for Building and Landscape contractors who are headquartered outside the Sherwood City Limits. For more information about a Metro license please call (503) 797-1620 or visit their website at www.oregonmetro.gov.

New businesses that start after June 30th of the current year may pay a pro-rated fee for the remainder of that year.

Home-Based Business
Home-based businesses within Sherwood city limits must annually have a valid City of Sherwood Business License and complete a Home Occupation Permit Application. Follow the instructions included on the Home Occupation Permit Application and submit by email to the Planning Department for review.
Steps to Apply – New Business License

- Post your Business License in a conspicuous location. It is the businesses responsibility to provide licenses to employees for door-to-door solicitation or as needed.
