Law Clerk Internship
The City of Sherwood offers an exceptional Law Clerk Program primarily designed for rising third-year law students interested in municipal law, litigation, and public service. Under the general direction of the City Attorney and alongside a supportive legal team, law clerks gain valuable, hands-on legal experience while serving the interests of the City and its residents.
Program Highlights
- Mentorship and Training: Law clerks work closely with the City Attorney, gaining direct exposure to the legal functions of a municipal government. Participants are guided through real-world legal issues, from legal research and drafting to client interaction and litigation strategy.
- Substantive Legal Work: Clerks assist in preparing legal memoranda, reviewing contracts, interpreting statutes, developing policy, and supporting litigation. This is not a clerical role—law clerks are entrusted with meaningful assignments that develop their legal judgment and writing skills.
- Collaborative Environment: The Sherwood legal department prides itself on a collaborative, communicative, and team-oriented culture. Law clerks are welcomed as integral members of the legal team and are encouraged to participate in staff meetings, strategy sessions, and interdepartmental projects.
- Service-Oriented Legal Practice: With a focus on public interest and government accountability, the program is ideal for students who value ethics, transparency, and making a tangible difference in the community.
