Area 59
Area 59 is an area that was designated by Metro and brought into the Sherwood UGB in 2002. Metro required local jurisdictions to develop a concept plan for this area bordered on Elwert and Edy Rd. before annexation and development of any property. After 2 years of public involvement a concept plan was adopted by City Council in April 2006. In January 2007, the Council adopted amendments to the Comprehensive Plan to implement the concept plan.
On May 15, 2007 the public vote approved annexation of Area 59 into the City of Sherwood, pending final official certification which is now complete. The first development in this area was the new elementary and middle school. The Sherwood School District completed Edy Ridge Elementary School and Laurel Ridge Middle School opened in Fall 2009. The City has also reviewed a land use applications for residential development consistent with the concept plan (which has not yet been constructed) and it is anticipated that others will be submitted in the future.
