Home Occupation Permit
In the City of Sherwood an individual is allowed to operate certain types of businesses from their residence per Sherwood Zoning and Community Development Code Chapter 16.42.
The purpose of home based businesses is to allow residents of Sherwood the opportunity to use their homes to engage in small-scale business ventures. Home occupations are regulated to ensure that they do not alter the residential character of the neighborhood, nor infringe upon the rights of nearby residents to the peaceful enjoyment of their neighborhood and homes.
The approval criteria and standards ensure that home occupations are conducted as lawful uses that are subordinate to the residential use of the property and are conducted in a manner that is not detrimental or disruptive in terms of appearance or operation to neighboring properties.
Home based businesses located in the City limits of Sherwood may be required to apply for a Home Occupation Permit. Please call Planning staff at (503) 925-2308 to verify if your business is exempt from applying for a Home Occupation Permit.
Applications and fee (if applicable), may be submitted in person at the Community Development Department at City Hall (2nd floor), 22560 SW Pine Street, email, or by mail. The home occupation permit fee is an annual fee.
PLEASE NOTE:
Businesses are also required to be registered with the State of Oregon and either hold a valid City of Sherwood business license or, if qualified, claim a City license exemption.
