The Pearl Room: Older Adult Mental Health Support

Many of us have moments when we're not feeling comfortable with how we're experiencing life and the world around us. The Pearl Room at the Marjorie Stewart Senior Center provides free mental health support and depression treatment to older adults through in-person, in-center, and TeleHealth interactions.  We accomplish this through empowering PsyD students and peer coaches who are overseen by a licensed councilor, creating a program that can be beneficial for all participants. The Pearl Room also provides a comfortable and engaging environment for support groups and important conversations that are both peer and student facilitated.

The Program to Engage Active, Rewarding Lives (PEARLS)

Have you been feeling down or blue? Have you lost interest in doing things? If you answered “yes” to one or both of these questions and are 60 years or older, there may be something we can do to help. PEARLS Coaches lead participants who meet the criteria through problem solving treatment to emphasize self-empowerment while being included in the supportive and caring Marjorie Stewart Center community.

-The PEARLS Program teaches you skills to manage the unpleasant feelings associated with depression.

                - Local coaches meet with you individually to help you identify and solve problems that are linked to feeling the way you do.

                - Learn ways to become more physically & socially active.

Circle of Friends

Are you new to the area and looking to connect? Have you gotten separated from your social life during Covid? Are you feeling isolated or lonely? The Circle of Friends group is geared towards older adults (aged 65+) in need of more social support and connection to their community.

The group meets for six-weeks with a facilitator who will help guide the group in discussion, activities, and fun. These activities and discussions are based on participants interests and are structured to build lasting connections.

One-on-One Counseling

Life can be overwhelming at times and sometimes we just need someone to talk to. We are happy to partner with Pacific University to offer one-on-one therapeutic counseling to older adults in our community.

Aging & Caring Support Group

Relationships with our significant other change and evolve over time, especially through aging and new diagnoses.  It can be difficult to adapt. Find support from peers who are facing similar challenges and experiences by joining our facilitated program to learn from each other.

Grief Support

There is no normal way to grieve, it strikes us in different yet similar ways. Join this peer-facilitated group to find support from others who are experiencing the loss of someone they love. This safe and welcoming environment provides the space for you to share your feelings, experiences, and memories while navigating your loss.
