ABOUT THE BAND: CONJUNTO ALEGRE (Latin/Salsa)
Conjunto Alegré has been a staple on the Portland salsa scene since 1986 and has performed all over: Cinco de Mayo, Rose Festival, the Mt. Hood Festival of Jazz – you name it, they’ve been there.
To hear Conjunto Alegré perform is like grabbing your passport and taking a musical whirlwind tour of Latin America. The band plays salsa from all over: Bachata and Merengue from the Dominican Republic, Cumbia from Columbia, Salsa from Puerto Rico and Venezuela, and Cha-Cha-Cha and traditional Boleros from everywhere else. The band has opened for such international acts and stars as Cirque de Sole, Tito Puente, Sonora Carruseles and Fruko, Groupo Niche, and Eddie Santiago. Group leader Aquiles Montas is one of the most energetic performers you will ever see on stage, and is also one of the greatest champions of Latin music in Portland.
Come… take a trip to the Caribbean with Conjunto Alegré – no passport required.
