Sherwood, Oregon - The City of Sherwood announces that $3 million in federal funding has been designated toward the improvement of a major new public roadway in the Tonquin Employment Area of Sherwood as part of the FY23 Federal Budget. These funds will go toward construction of Ice Age Drive, a key roadway that will enable access to several industrial parks currently under construction in the city.

Thank you for your efforts, Sherwood. The voluntarily water curtailment has ended. The Willamette River Water Plant has successfully repaired the broken water pump. Regular water usage can continue. The City will return to regular watering as well.

Sherwood City Manager Keith Campbell has announced the appointment of Ty Hanlon as the new Chief of Police for the Sherwood Police Department. Hanlon replaces Chief Jeff Groth who retired at the end of 2021 after nearly 14 years as the Sherwood Police Chief.

Chief Groth began his law enforcement career as an Oregon State Police Cadet, working in State Parks on the Oregon coast. Groth then served as a Reserve Police Officer for the Independence Police Department. In 1989, Groth completed his Bachelor’s Degree at Western Oregon University. That same year, Groth was hired as a patrol officer by the Tualatin Police Department, where he served for over 18 years.

Campbell currently serves as the City Manager for the City of Stayton, Oregon and was selected from among 34 applicants for the position following a national recruitment effort.

At a special meeting on April 1st, the Sherwood City Council appointed City Hall veteran Kristen Switzer to the City Manager Pro Tem position. Switzer is the current Community Services Director for the City and has worked for the organization for almost twenty years. She will become the interim City Manager upon the departure of current City Manager Joseph Gall in May. Gall is leaving for a position with Clean Water Services after nearly nine years with the City of Sherwood.

After nearly nine years as the City Manager for the City of Sherwood, Joe Gall has accepted a new position with regional water resource management utility Clean Water Services (CWS) in Hillsboro, Oregon. Gall will be their first-ever Chief Utility Relations Officer and will lead the newly formed Regional Utility Services Department.

On November 13, 2020, Governor Kate Brown announced a state-wide Freeze from November 18, 2020 through December 2, 2020, to help curb the rapid spread of COVID-19. The two-week Freeze measures have had a significant impact on eating and drinking establishments which have been restricted to delivery and take-out only and to gyms/fitness facilities/indoor entertainment businesses which have been forced to close.

As a result of the Governor's Freeze order, all city facilities will be closed to the public starting tomorrow (November 18th) through December 2nd. City staff will still be working as they have throughout the pandemic, but contacting them by phone or email is now the best route. Like so many, we hope to reopen after this two week period. As a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Sherwood has recently received two new grants which the City will use to provide financial assistance to Sherwood’s small businesses that can help assist them through this period. The City has been awarded a $35,000 grant from Business Oregon, the State’s economic development agency, and $248,000 in funds from the federal CARES Act distributed to the City through Washington County for this purpose. Applications under both programs will be accepted starting at 9:00 am on Monday, August 24, 2020 and will close at 5:00 pm on Friday,

The City of Sherwood Utility Billing Department has created a new assistance program to help those affected directly by COVID-19. The program is only available for residential accounts. In order to apply, residents will need to complete a COVID-19 assistance application which is available on the City website. The application asks residents a few questions to demonstrate they have been financially impacted by COVID-19. Qualifying residents will receive a one-time credit of $58.99 on their bill.

The Small Business Emergency Relief Program is a commitment of $100,000 to help small businesses immediately offset some of the economic impacts due to Covid-19.

The City of Sherwood has extended its Declaration of State of Emergency period until April 2, 2020. The Declaration of State of Emergency was originally declared on March 12, 2020 for a two-week period by Sherwood City Manager, Joseph Gall. In Sherwood, the City Manager has the authority to extend the Declaration of State of Emergency in one week increments in the event that an emergency continues to exist.

Today we are in unchartered waters as we as a country, a state and as a community work together to slow the growth rate of Covid-19. Everyone has a role to play and I am thankful I live in Oregon, in Sherwood specifically, as I know we are all up for this challenge to help protect those at greatest risk.
The experts say we are at the beginning of this pandemic so the more we do to put the brakes on it–the better. It likely also means doing things differently for longer than we might expect.

Phelan Development, based in Newport Beach, California, has begun construction of three new speculative industrial buildings with a total building area of 235,875 SF on a nearly 12 acre site on the north side of Tualatin Sherwood Road, between SW Cipole Road and SW Wildrose Place in the city of Sherwood, Oregon. This is the newest project from Phelan Development in the Greater Portland market. Building A will contain 108,200 square feet. Building B will consist of 34,450 square feet while Building C will be approximately 92,400 square feet. The buildings will be divisible.

The recently-completed 17,000 square foot office and warehouse sits on Tualatin Sherwood Road and houses the international headquarters of the operation, including 30 employees and over 250,000 line items of spare parts.
The new Sherwood, Ore facility is a symbol of Aviatrix’s exponential growth since the company’s humble beginnings in 2002; where a small one suite office in Newberg, Ore. housed two employees.

The Sherwood Budget Committee is currently accepting applications for one position. This is a mid term vacancy that expires June 30, 2020 with the possibility of renewal for a 3 year term. Applications will be accepted for this position until 5:00 pm on January 24, 2020. Applicants must be Sherwood residents who are registered voters and have an interest in the fiscal management of the City. The Sherwood Budget Committee meets periodically throughout the year and in April and May to review the annual City Budget.
