SUMMARY:Lee's Association Lion Dance Company
DESCRIPTION:It is the Year of the Fire Horse and Lee’s Association Lion Dance Team will be making an appearance at our summer reading lineup. \nFestive\, expressive\, engaging for all ages\, and these are just a few words that describe this cultural event. \nThis is an outdoor venue. We will have some shade/rain tents\, but attendees are encouraged to dress for the weather. \nThe Sherwood YMCA will be providing free lunches to all families who attend. Thank you YMCA! \nA very special Thank You to Stan and Diana Stanley. This program is extra-special for us today not only because it is sponsored by them\, but it is also in honor of their daughter Theresa Kaishin Stanley. Theresa was a volunteer at our library and will always be part of our library family. Her cheerful energy and smile always brought us so much joy…and we truly hope that today’s performance brings you all a little bit of that joy as well. \nEveryone welcome! \n

SUMMARY:Adult Book Discussion: The Measure by Nikki Erlick
DESCRIPTION:Read. Be inspired. Discuss. \nWe’re hosting a book discussion in person at the library. If you love to talk about the books you’ve read\, join us for a lively discussion of The Measure by Nikki Erlick\, which may be available as an e-book and audiobook in Libby as well as physical library copies which can be checked out. The first 10 people to register for this program can be given copies of the book provided generously by Friends of Sherwood Public Library. \nRegistration online is encouraged but not required. Click here to register. \nFrom the publisher: \n\n\nIt seems like any other day: You wake up\, pour a cup of coffee\, and head out. But today when you open your front door\, waiting for you is a small wooden box. This box holds your fate inside: the answer to the exact number of years you will live. From suburban doorsteps to desert tents\, every person on every continent receives the same box. In an instant\, the world is thrust into a collective frenzy. Where did these boxes come from? What do they mean? Is there truth to what they promise? As society comes together and pulls apart\, everyone faces the same shocking choice: Do they wish to know how long they’ll live? And\, if so\, what will they do with that knowledge? The Measure charts the dawn of this new world through an unforgettable cast of characters whose decisions and fates interweave with one another: best friends whose dreams are forever entwined; pen pals finding refuge in the unknown; a couple who thought they didn’t have to rush; a doctor who cannot save himself; and a politician whose box becomes the powder keg that ultimately changes everything.

DESCRIPTION:Read. Be inspired. Discuss. \nWe’re hosting a book discussion in person at the library. Even the beloved honeybees she raises in her spare time aren’t helping her with the panic attacks she suffers. During one attack she meets Jake– a troubled\, paraplegic teenager with the tallest mohawk in Hood River County. Charmed by Jake’s sincere interest in her bees and seeking to rescue him from his toxic home life\, Alice surprises herself by inviting Jake to her farm. Then there’s Harry\, who suffers from debilitating social anxiety and who is desperate for work. As an unexpected friendship blossoms among Alice\, Jake\, and Harry\, a nefarious pesticide company moves to town\, threatening the local honeybee population and illuminating deep-seated corruption in the community.
