SW Langer Farms Parkway (Formerly SW Adams Avenue) - Oregon Street Improvements

Construction Update – November 22nd, 2011

Portland & Western Railroad will install the new railroad crossing signals, warning devices and signal control house in December. Portland & Western Railroad has closed the tracks to train traffic until the equipment is installed and tested.
SW Langer Farms Parkway is open to traffic. The traffic signal and streetlights have been energized. Some of the streetlights are not turning on at night; City staff is investigating the matter. Northwest Earthmovers is wrapping up their remaining work. Minor corrective & repair (punchlist) work will be wrapped up in December. The two-year maintenance (warranty) period will begin once the punchlist work is completed. .

Ribbon-Cutting Event

The City hosted a ribbon-cutting event for the project on Tuesday, November 1st at the Century Drive roundabout. It was a beautiful, sunny day and a well-attended event. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend. Special thanks to Mayor Keith Mays, City Councilors Dave Grant, Linda Henderson, Matt Langer, Krisanna Clark, County Commissioners Roy Rogers and Andy Duyck for their participation and support. This project would not have been possible without the continued support of our elected officials, Sherwood residents and businesses.

Project Background

The project widens SW Adams Avenue to five lanes at Tualatin-Sherwood Road, extends Adams Avenue south to Oregon Street, and improves Oregon Street from the railroad crossing west into Old Town. A traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Adams Avenue & Oregon Street/Railroad Crossing. A two-lane roundabout will be constructed at Century Drive & Adams Avenue. The intersection of SW Adams Avenue and SW Tualatin-Sherwood Road will remain stop controlled until the road is extended north to 99W (near Home Depot) at which point a signal will be installed.

The project will provide 6’ to 8’ wide sidewalks on the west side and a 12’ wide multi-use path on the east side from Old Town to Tualatin-Sherwood Road.  Typically there will be 5’ wide landscaped areas between the curbs and walks/paths, two vehicle travel lanes and a center turning lane/median.

Public utility infrastructure (water, storm, sanitary) will be installed and upgraded within the project area.  Acorn streetlights will be installed in most areas, with four cobra head style lights provided at the two-lane roundabout. Existing overhead utilities along Oregon Street will be relocated underground. Franchise utilities (electricity, gas, phone, TV, internet/fiber) will also be given the opportunity to upgrade existing and install new infrastructure during the project.

Project Funding

The City approved the funding necessary to complete the project in August 2010. The majority of the project’s construction funding comes from the Washington County MSTIP program: http://www.co.washington.or.us/LUT/TransportationFunding/TransportationSystemFunding/what-is-mstip.cfm
