The foundational and most visible component of the City of Sherwood Police Department is uniformed patrol. The Patrol Section maintains its dedication to Community Policing and continues to retain and expand community relationships, despite the growth of the community.

The Patrol Section is managed by a Police Captain who provides leadership, direction and supervision of the daily operations of the police department. These operations include patrol services, traffic enforcement services, tactical response and preparation, community activities and events, police canines and police reserves.

Patrol officers provide both responsive and preventative patrol, by assignment to one of three patrol districts in the city. Responsive patrol includes emergency and non-emergency calls for service received from police and fire dispatch. Preventative patrol includes self initiated activities like business and home checks, traffic stops and focused patrols.

A major part of our Community Policing approach is the Community Watch Program. Community Watch includes several components, including;

• Home/Neighborhood Watch
• Faith Watch
• School Watch
• Park Watch
• Community Academy

The Community Watch Program is overseen by a Police Sergeant and the various components are carried out by uniformed police officers.
