The Sherwood Budget Committee is currently accepting applications for one position. This is a mid term vacancy that expires June 30, 2020 with the possibility of renewal for a 3 year term. Applications will be accepted for this position until 5:00 pm on January 24, 2020. Applicants must be Sherwood residents who are registered voters and have an interest in the fiscal management of the City. The Sherwood Budget Committee meets periodically throughout the year and in April and May to review the annual City Budget.

Sherwood has applied for grant funds to design the Blake Street connection between Oregon Street and 124th in the Tonquin Employment Area.  This funding will incentivize economic development and job creation in the area by identifying a specific road alignment and design that can then be constructed as development occurs or as the City obtains additional funding to construct the road.  We are competing for funding with other jurisdictions around the Portland Metropolitan region and public support is an important factor in the ultimate funding decision.  Show your support for funding this pr

Senior Advisory Board

The Senior Advisory Board is appointed by the City Council and serves as an advisory board to the City Council and city administration on senior services programming, policies, planning, and management. The Board consists of nine members, eight of which must be residents of the City of Sherwood. One board member must reside within the 97140 zip code but need not be a resident of the City of Sherwood. Citizen members are appointed to three year terms.

With the conclusion of the 2019 Oregon Legislative Session, the City of Sherwood was recently allocated $2 million in state lottery funds to help provide improved pedestrian connections across State Highway 99W near the site of the new Sherwood High School currently under construction.  State Representative Courtney Neron (House District 26) worked closely with Mayor Keith Mays to help identify the funding during this past session.  “Sherwood is known for its excellent schools and being one of the safest communities in Oregon,” stated Representative Neron.  “The investments we make now will

The City of Sherwood is pleased to announce that our Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici will be participating in our community’s annual Veterans Day ceremony on Saturday, November 11th.  The event will take place at 11:00 am at the Sherwood Center for the Arts located at 22689 SW Pine Street in Old Town Sherwood.  Congresswoman Bonamici will be part of a program that will feature a number of inspirational speakers and musical performances by the award-winning A Capella Choir from Sherwood High School, The Mixolydians.

Since 1998, the city-owned recreational and aquatic center has been operated through a long-term operating agreement with the YMCA of the Columbia Willamette.  This original 20 year agreement expires on October 31, 2018.  An important clause within the agreement is that both parties are required to notify each other if their intent is to not extend beyond the original 20 year term by October 31, 2017.

Two Water Construction Loans Benefit from Refinancing Decision

The City of Sherwood Finance Director, Katie Henry, announced today a savings of more than $920,000 to ratepayers over the next 13 years through the refinancing of $9 million in construction loans held by the City of Sherwood Water fund.  This refinancing lowered the interest rates from an average of 3.7 percent for the two loans to 2.29 percent.  The City received competitive bids from several banks on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 with Columbia Bank being selected as the winning bidder.

The Comprehensive Plan serves as the basis for all land use planning and growth management actions in Sherwood, providing direction for City decision-making on everything from citizen involvement and economic development to transportation, natural resources, housing, and infrastructure. Originally adopted in 1980, the Comprehensive Plan was last updated in 1991.

Sherwood) will be Saturday, April 20, 2024.  Meet at Cannery Square at 10:00am, each group will be given a predetermined area, go out and clean your designated area, then come back to Cannery Square at 11:30am for festivities.

In preparation for a City Council work session on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 6:00 pm, the Feasibility Study for the Sherwood Recreation and Aquatic Center is now available (see link below).  This study was identified as a City Council goal in 2016 and the City hired the firm of Ballard*King and Associates in August 2016 to complete the study.

In September of this year, officials from the City of Sherwood and Clean Water Services began a mediation process over a disagreement between the parties that began back in 2008.  The City of Sherwood had passed an ordinance in late 2008 imposing a privilege tax on all utility providers (public and private) that use the City’s right-of-way and, in early 2009, had notified Clean Water Services that it was subject to that ordinance.  Clean Water Services disputed the franchise fee at that time and the parties, including Mayor Mays and CWS Board Chair Tom Brian, attempted to resolve the issue

Total Budget and General Fund Budget are Reduced Compared with Current Year

On Friday, Sherwood City Manager Joseph Gall released the Fiscal Year 2016-17 Proposed Budget.  In compliance with state budget law, the proposed budget is balanced, and does not rely on any use of financial reserves. The total budget proposed for FY2016-17 is $26,103,745, a 7.9% decrease from the current adopted budget for this fiscal year.  This includes $12,066,777 million for General Fund operations, a 1% decrease from the current fiscal year.

The Dog Park at Snyder Park has reopened as of Wednesday April 6th.  There are some areas that are fenced off to restrict four-footed traffic to allow the new grass to get stronger.  There may be cause to temporarily close the dog park if heavy rains roll through in the next few weeks. Customers of Portland General Electric (PGE) recently received a letter from the utility about the implementation of a privilege tax that will begin to appear on their September bills.  The City has received numerous phone calls with questions about this letter and impending new charge on their PGE bills.  The document below is list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) that PGE customers are asking in their calls.  We will update this list as necessary in the future.

A license is required to raise and keep backyard chickens in the City of Sherwood. A license is valid for five years and may be renewed.  If you are in a Home Owners Association, please check with them prior to submitting an application to raise chickens. Not all HOA's allow the raising of chickens. The application to raise backyard chickens is found below. If your application to raise backyard chickens is approved, your adjacent neighbors will be informed of your license.

With the passage of Measure 91 in November 2014, the State of Oregon is working on a variety of fronts to implement recreational marijuana in Oregon.  State Representative John Davis (House District 26) and State Senator Kim Thatcher (Senate District 13) will be conducting a Town Hall in Sherwood on Wednesday, April 29, 2015.  The event begins at 6:30 pm and will be held in the Community Room of the Sherwood Police Department located at 20495 SW Borchers Drive in Sherwood.
