We Need Your Help!

As you may well know, The City of Sherwood has begun
a construction project on Sunset Blvd. which involves
numerous road closures and detours. The surrounding
neighborhoods are being affected as a result of
increased traffic and congestion. Some drivers have
become impatient and are disobeying the posted signs,
which have been placed for the safety of drivers,
pedestrians and the construction workers and vehicles in
the area. Disobeying the signs can cause an extreme
risk to safety of all persons!

The City of Sherwood Police Department and the Public Works Division ask for your
assistance during this time of construction. When you are driving in the area of the
construction, there are a few things that you should know. There are designated detour
routes which are signed with orange detour signs, and are there to ensure safety for all
during the different phases of the project. Other signs include, “Road Closed To Thru
Traffic” and some indicate “Local Traffic only”.

These signs mean that the roadway is closed to through
traffic, meaning as a route of normal travel. The only
vehicles that are allowed by law into these areas are vehicles
needing access to residences, schools, businesses, and
parks within the closure area. All other traffic is not to travel
on these roadways. ORS 811.445 states that; a person
commits the offense of use of a throughway when prohibited
if any use restrictions or prohibitions are posted by
appropriate signs giving notice thereof and the person
violates any restriction or prohibition so posted.

This offense is a Class D traffic violation, with a minimum bail of $142.00. Due to the
number of complaints in the area, officers will be stopping vehicles that appear to be in
violation of this law, and you may receive a citation.

We need your help to make this project successful and as safe as possible. We are
asking for everyone to do their part! If you have a question, please call the City of
Sherwood Public Works at 503-625-5722 or the City of Sherwood Police at 503-625-
5523. Thanks again for your assistance to keep our community safe!
