Get a library card
Can I get a Library card?
If you live in Washington, Clackamas (except Johnson City), Multnomah, or Hood River counties in Oregon, or reside in the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District or the City of Camas in Washington, you are eligible for a Washington County Cooperative Library System (WCCLS) card. Just bring in current photo ID and proof of your current address. If this is all on your driver's license, that is all you need.
What if I don't have a license?
Anyone can bring in photo ID and a piece of mail or other paperwork that matches the name on the ID and make a card. Acceptable IDs include: out of state driver's license, passport, school ID, Military ID, credit card with a picture.
Children can come in with a parent or guardian who has a current license as proof of address.
Not sure? Just ask us. Call 503.625.6688 and see if your type of ID will work.
I have a library card in another part of the state, can I use that here?
Many libraries in the state now participate in the Oregon Library Passport Program. If your library is one of them and you bring your library card and your current photo ID and proof of address, we can make you a limited-use Washington County card. Great if you are vacationing or visiting the area! Please note that if you are coming from some libraries in the Chemeketa Cooperative Library System (for example the Newberg library) you will need an Oregon Passport sticker on your card first. Just ask at your home library.
What if I don't live in one of those counties?
You still have options!
If you work or attend school in the City of Sherwood, but live outside our county, you are eligible for a local-use card. Bring proof of your school or job and current photo ID and proof of address and we can make you a free card.
If you own property in Washington County you are eligible for a card in our system. Bring proof of the Washington County Tax records as well as proof of your home address and current photo ID and we can make you a free card.
If you live outside of our area and would like to use our services, you may pay $140/year for a card. Just bring current photo ID and proof of address and a check made payable to Washington County Cooperative Library Services.
Do you share my information?
No. We take your privacy very seriously. You can access your account at the library with your library card or picture ID. You can access your online account with your card number and PIN. Over the phone, we'll need your library card number. To access anyone else's account, including children and spouses, you'll need their card or to be officially associated with their account by library staff.
We do not check immigration status. WCCLS does not share your name and address with other government agencies. Your reading record is protected under Oregon Law.
