Beginning November 1st, the City will initiate the 2010 annual leaf pick up program. The City of Sherwood leaf program helps reduce flooding caused by leaves clogging storm drains. Please remember that if leaves are not at curbside during your scheduled dates, the crews will not have the opportunity to provide you with curbside service. Crews are not allowed to walk onto private property to retrieve leaves. There will be no curbside pickup on Private Streets.
We ask citizens to not use bags for curbside pick-up. Please have loose leaves at curbside on the first day of your scheduled pick up area. Loose leaves, if placed in the street, should be raked into a windrow, and must be away from the curb 12” to allow for water drainage to the storm drains. To be most efficient we ask citizens, not to park vehicles, place refuse bins, recycle totes on or near leaves at curb. Only leaves will be picked up. Yard debris, lawn clippings and garbage will not be collected. Any items other than leaves will be left at curbside, with the homeowner responsible for disposal. Leaves and most plant materials from your yard or garden may be disposed of via the yard debris bins provided by Pride Disposal.
If crews get off schedule due to emergencies, severe winter weather, or extremely heavy leaf fall, please do not call the City. The crews will pick up leaves as soon as possible. We may also complete an area early, and move into the next area a day or two ahead of the area’s scheduled start date. Again, please do not call the City. We will make every effort to pick up your leaves in a timely manner.
If you missed your scheduled pick up dates, or want to dispose of your leaves early, the City will have “central drop days” at the Public Works Yard 15527 SW Willamette Street (next to the Fieldhouse). The dates are: Saturday, November 6th, Saturday, November 20th, and Saturday, December 4th from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Additional information is available by calling Public Works at 503-625-5722.
There is no charge to drop your leaves off at the Public Works Yard although in exchange for the free disposal we are requesting minimum donation of 3 non perishable food items that will be donated to the Helping Hands local food bank.
