Cultural Arts

The Cultural Arts Commission is appointed by the City Council and serves as an advisory board to the City Council, Sherwood Urban Renewal Agency Board of Directors and staff on arts and cultural programming, policies, planning, and management.

Duties and Responsibilities. The Commission shall:

  • Identify needs and facilitate arts initiatives that serve the City, expanding and enriching the cultural life of Sherwood.
  • Develop cultural arts policies and make recommendations to City Council with regard to public art and arts programming.
  • Promote the utilization of the Sherwood Center for the Arts as a venue for performances and events, promoting cultural tourism.

The Commission consists of up to nine members who serve a three year term. Eight of the members must live within Sherwood city limits and one member must live within the 97140 zip code.

Meetings are held on the third Monday of every month at 6:30 pm at the Center for the Arts, 22689 SW Pine Street, Sherwood, Oregon.

Citizen Comments

Citizen comments may be provided in person, in writing or by telephone. Written comments must be submitted at least 24 hours in advance of scheduled meeting start time by email to Chanda Hall and must clearly state that it is intended as a general Citizen Comment for this meeting. To provide comment by phone during the live meeting, email Chanda Hall or call (503)625-4278 at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting start time in order to receive dial-in instructions. Per Council Rules Ch. 2 Section (V)(D)(5), Citizen Comments, “Speakers shall identify themselves by their names and by their city of residence.” Anonymous comments will not be accepted into the meeting record. If you require ADA accommodations, please contact Chanda Hall (503)625-4278 at least 48 hours in advance of the scheduled meeting time.

The Murals Plan includes proposal forms and the specific process for implementing murals in Sherwood. Anyone can submit an idea for a mural design or location to the Commission—including individual artists or a group of artists, a building owner, a business owner, a non-profit organization, a citizen or citizen group, or a neighborhood association.
