Code Compliance FAQ

The City of Sherwood Code Enforcement Officer primarily enforces Municipal Code violations dealing with land use issues affecting the exterior condition of all property within the city limits. There is one Code Enforcement Officer for the city.

COMMON CONCERNS INCLUDE:

My neighbor doesn't cut their grass?
Sherwood Municipal Codes Section 8.16.160D & 9.44.020 requires citizens to mow their lawns on a regular basis. Grass/weeds cannot exceed ten (10) inches in height on all properties all year round. Why do I have to cut the grass along the City street? The Sherwood Municipal Codes requires citizens to maintain their property all the way to the street.

I notice that the neighbor next door has stagnant water, filth, waste material and other debris around the yard.
Sherwood Municipal Codes Section 9.44.030 requires these hazards to be removed and keep removed from all property at all times.

My neighbor has junk all over their property!
Outdoor storage is not allowed on residential properties per Municipal Codes 8.16.160J, 9.44.030 & 9.44.50. Items such as a barbecue grill, patio furniture, and stacked firewood are allowed, but other items such as waste building materials, auto parts, and appliances must be stored indoors.

My Neighbor has Junk Cars parked on their property!
Section 8.16.160H prohibits any unregistered motor vehicle to be parked or kept or stored on any premises and no vehicle shall be in a state of major disassembly, disrepair or in the process of being stripped or dismantled..

My neighbor is parking their Boat on the street!
Boats, horse trailers, RV’s, utility trailers and commercial vehicles are required to be parked on private property and can be parked on the street except between the hours of Midnight and 6 am. Any parked boat, trailer, RV etc can not be parked exceeding 72 hours. Again, all parking must be on an improved surface on the property.

My neighbor parks their RV on the street!
RV's and camping trailers may be parked on city streets provided they are operable and currently licensed and parked between 6 am and midnight. However, RV's and camping trailers can be parked in the driveway or in the rear or side yard on the property provided they are parked on an improved surface.

My neighbor doesn't clean up after their dog!
Sherwood Municipal Code 6.04.040 requires animal feces to be immediately removed and dispose of. A violation is a fine of $250.00. Residents must cleanup after their pets on a regular basis. Municipal Code 8.16.160 A and I pertains to sanitation and strong odors which are considered violations.

There are trees and bushes overhanging the stop signs and sidewalks!
Street signs and sidewalks must be kept free of obstructions. It is the property owner’s responsibility to maintain the sidewalk area vegetation to be clear of all vegetation between 2 feet and 7 feet.

My neighbor is running a business from their residence!
A home business is allowed in the City of Sherwood. They are primarily restricted to office uses in residential neighborhoods, and are regulated by the home occupation ordinance.
