Code Clean Up Survey II - Residential Hot Topics

The Planning Department is checking in with Sherwood residents as part of our Development Code Update to gauge how satisfied you are with the present residential uses and standards or any changes you would like to see. With your participation in the following survey, we hope to assess how well the current Development Code satisfies your (or your neighbor’s) need for privacy and the overall enjoyment of your property. Currently, we are look at the following residential issues: accessory uses and structures, fences, street trees and home businesses. Please take a moment to tell us what you think about these topics.

Accessory Structures

Accessory Uses and Structures can be up to 720 sq. feet and includes sheds, decks (if over 3 feet), hot tubs, pools, detached garages, gazebos, BUT NOT living quarters. If the structure is bigger than 200 sq. feet, it must be at least 5 feet away from the property line

Accessory Uses

City staff has received many inquiries about raising different types of animals, like chickens on residential property. Currently, chickens are considered a conditional use. If you want to raise chickens there needs to be a formal application, hearing and pay a fee of $4145 (Conditional Use Permit).

Fences

All fences, walls and hedges in the City of Sherwood are limited to 6 feet in height in the back and side yard.

Street Trees

Street Trees can be removed after receiving Parks Board (PRB) approval. There are no specific standards that determine whether a street tree can be removed. Upon removal of a street tree they must be replaced.

Home Businesses

Home Businesses operate within residential neighborhoods. It can take up to 25 % of the building footprint on the property and the business owner must live there. The hope is that home businesses are able to operate with little or no disruption to their neighbors. Do you agree or disagree with the following regulations?
