New Residential Design Standards have been adopted. The standards apply to new subdivisions, infill lots, and conversions of existing single family detached homes to more than one dwelling where the changes are visible from the street.  Subdivisions and planned unit developments (PUDs), approved before the adoption of the Residential Design Standards (Ordinance 2021-010) are exempt from the design standards.

Tenant Improvment in progress

Commercial tenant improvement is a generic construction term for the interior build out of an existing building or space to customize the space to make it meet your needs. A building permit is required to repair, alter or change occupancy or use of any existing commercial structure.

The following information must be submitted when applying for a permit for a commercial alteration/tenant improvement. Since every project is unique, there may be some situations where you will be asked to provide additional information.

Deck with stairs

Do I need a permit for my deck?

A building permit is required for all decks that are more than 30 inches above the ground measured at any point within 3 feet horizontally of the deck.  For information on setbacks (how close the deck is to property line) and other regulations that may apply to your deck project, check with our Planning staff at (503) 925-2308. Even if a building permit is not required you still must meet zoning requirements.

Code Book

Adopted Codes
The City of Sherwood and all jurisdictions in the State of Oregon adopt and use the same building code editions. You may find a list of all the current building codes and view them online on the State of Oregon’s Building Codes Division’s website
