Adopt-A-Road Program

What is Adopt-A-Road?
The Adopt-A-Road Program is an anti-litter campaign intended to build civic pride in a litter-free Sherwood. It allows citizens to work in partnership with the City by "adopting" a segment of roadway and agreeing to keep it clean. This program offers individuals an inexpensive way to contribute to their community and generate publicity for their efforts. Every participant in this program makes a positive impact on the appearance of the road system and their community.
Participants volunteer to remove litter, maintain landscaping or perform vandalism cleanup along an adopted segment of roadway for a minimum of two years. The assigned segments will be approximately two miles long, depending on the size of the volunteer group and the volume of anticipated litter. The participants will service the road segment a minimum of four times a year.
The City will provide each group with safety vests, traffic safety signs and devices, plastic trash bags, safety training materials. The City will pick up filled trash bags and remove any large, heavy or hazardous materials. The City will also erect a sign at your adopted site recognizing your efforts.
The segments are as follows:
- Borchers Road (Edy to Roy Rogers) - Friends and Family of Justus Cole
- Edy Road (Houston to 99W) - Bowmen Family Foundation
- Langer Drive - Casey Hill Insurance
- Langer Farms Pkwy (Oregon to Century) - Sherwood American Legion Post 56
- Langer Farms Pkwy (Tualatin Sherwood to 99W) - The Garland Family
- Main Street (Railroad to Sunset) - Rotary Club of Sherwood
- Meinecke Road - SHS Key Club
- Murdock Road - Rotary Club of Sherwood
- Oregon Street - Braedon Schooler and Family
- Railroad Street - The Dorsey Family
- Sherwood Blvd (99W to Pine) - Sherwood City Council
- Sunset Blvd (Murdock to Main) -
- Sunset Blvd (Main to Pinehurst) - Sherwood Elk Lodge
Litter pollutes! Rainwater runs off the roadway and drains into ditches before traveling into our creeks and rivers, taking contaminants right along.
Litter is dangerous! Broken glass and other debris can be hazardous to pedestrians and bicyclists.
Litter is ugly! Clean roads reflect how we feel about our community. Litter encourages litter. Littered roads destroy the natural beauty of this special place.
Litter is expensive! The City of Sherwood is concerned about the growing litter problem but there just isn’t enough money to solve it alone.
