Adams Avenue – Oregon Street Improvements Project
A Neighborhood Meeting was held for the project on August 25th, 2010 at City Hall. The meeting was open to the public and staff gave a brief presentation on the road project with Q&A following. Exhibits from the meeting as well as a general summary of the issues discussed are located under Project Resources on the right side of this webpage. If you missed the meeting and would like additional information, please contact Jason Waters with the City of Sherwood (see contact information below).
Update - September 2010
The project is in the final design phase with the hope of going to bid and beginning construction later this year. The City has approved the funding necessary to construct Adams Avenue south of Tualatin-Sherwood Road as well as Oregon Street and the railroad crossing. Right-of-Way negotiations are proceeding in earnest.
Background
The road project will widen SW Adams Avenue at Tualatin-Sherwood Road, extend Adams Avenue to Oregon Street, and improve Oregon Street from the railroad crossing west to Old Town. A traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Adams Avenue & Oregon Street/Railroad Crossing. A two-lane roundabout will be constructed at Century Drive & Adams Avenue. A traffic signal will be at Adams Avenue & Tualatin-Sherwood Road during the second phase of the project (Adams North) when the road is extended north to 99W.
The project will provide sidewalks on the west side and a 12’ wide multi-use path on the east side from Old Town to Tualatin-Sherwood Road. Typically there will be 5’ wide landscaped areas between the curbs and walks/paths, two vehicle travel lanes and a center turning lane/median.
Public utility infrastructure (water, storm, sanitary) will be installed and upgraded within the project area. Acorn streetlights will be installed. Existing overhead utilities along Oregon Street will be relocated underground. Franchise utilities (electricity, gas, phone, TV, internet/fiber) will also be given the opportunity to upgrade existing and install new infrastructure during the project.
Adams Avenue North Project
The second phase of the project will extend Adams Avenue north of Tualatin-Sherwood Road to 99W through land recently annexed in the city limits. The City is currently working on the design of Adams Avenue North with the consultant team of HHPR/DKS. Construction funds have not yet been identified for the north extension to 99W.
Land annexation and concept planning efforts are complete. For more information on that process please visit the annexation/concept plan webpage: http://www.sherwoodoregon.gov/adams-avenue-north-concept-plan
